چکیده

ln this paper, we obtain the optimum transmission ranges to maximize throughput for a direct-sequence spread-spectrum multihop packet radio network. In the analysis, we model the network selfinterference as a random variahle which is equal to the sum of the interference power of all other terminals plus hackground noise. The model is applicable to other spread spectrum schemes where the interference of one user appears as a noise source with constant power spectral density to the other users. The network terminals are modeled as a random Poisson field of interference power emitters. The statistics of the interference power at a receiving terminal are obtained and show to be the stable distributions of a parameter that is dependent on the propagation power loss law. The optimum transmission range in such a network is of the form C K “ where Cis a constant, K is a function of the processing gain, the background noise power spectral density, and the degree of error-correction coding used, and (Y is related to the power loss law. The results obtained can he used in heuristics to determine optimum routing strategies in multihop networks.

Computer-Aided Modeling of Spread Spectrum Packet Radio Networks

Closed-form expressions for the performance of radio networks are generally not available. For spread spectrum networks, it is not even clear how to represent the underlying network, since the existence of links is heavily dependent on activity in other parts of the network. We have developed a set of computer-based modeling tools to help understand the performance and behavior of these network...

Optimal arrival-time distribution for delay capture in spread-spectrum packet radio networks

The optimal arrival-time distribution that maximizes the delay-capture probability in spread-spectrum packet radio networks is derived. It is shown that using the optimal arrival-time distribution, the capture probability converges to a finite value as the number of contending users increase. Normalized throughput and average delay is computed for slotted ALOHA random access packet radio networ...

Packet Radio and the Factory of the Future

Spread-spectrum packet radio networks are currently being considered for use in the factory of the future. These networks have the resistance to fading and the inherent multiple access capability that are necessary to interconnect the Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and other mobile machines and personnel that will be used in the future factory. This paper reports on progress in the design an...

Throughput enhancement of direct-sequence spread-spectrum packet radio networks by adaptive power control

Absti-ucfThis paper investigates the performance of directsequence spread-spectrum packet radio networks in the presence of the near/far problem. It is found that the maximum throughput of the network suffers degradation due to the near/ far problem. However, analysis also shows that, under high traffic conditions, a network with the near/far problem delivers higher throughput than another with...

Hop-Reservation Multiple Access (HRMA) for Ad-Hoc Networks - INFOCOM '99. Eighteenth Annual Joint Conference of the IEEE Computer and Communications Societies

AbsfrucfA new multichannel MAC protocol called Hop-Reservation Multiple Access (HRMA) for wireless ad-hoc networks (multi-hop packet radio networks) is introduced, specified and analyzed. HRMA is based on simple half-duplex, very-slow frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) radios and takes advantage of the time synchronization necessary for frequency hopping. HRMA allows a pair of communicati...
